Tiruvanmiyur or Thiruvanmiyur is one of the
popular locations housed in the city of Chennai. The region stands as
one of the suburban regions of the city. The place lies to the south of
the city and lined on the east by the coastal region of Tamil Nadu
state. The region is a developed commecial and learning centre in the
southern premises of the city.
Tiruvanmiyur is home to a number of popular attractions. The famous
Marundeeswarar temple is grounded here. Besides the popular temple there
are a number of other worshipping places in the region. Kalakshetra, a
much credited centre is also located in the outskirts of Tiruvanmiyur.
It is a reputed centre that hosts seminars and workshops, aimed to
preserve the Indian culture. Kalakshetra Colony, a small residential
area in Tiruvanmiyur has derived its name from the reputed centre rooted
here. A small garden called Coconut Garden is situated in the
Kottivakkam locality of the suburb. The garden is quite popular in the
neighbouring areas.
The main post office is located east of Lattice Bridge (LB) Road, around
100 meters before it meets Old Mahabalipuram Road. The two main theatres
in the area are the Jayanthi and the Theyagaraja situated on the LB Road
just north of the intersection with Tiruvalluvar Salai. Thiruvanmiyur
Beach is becoming an attraction especially because of its calm and
serene atmosphere - mainly due to less crowded conditions.
The beaches are calm and there is a pathway for walkers on the beach.
Nowadays the beaches are getting more crowded.
The beach line is 1 km from the East Coast Road (ECR). ECR leads to
Mahabalipuram and Puducherry(Arabindo Ashram)
On the way to Mahabalipuram,there is a good commercial center
Kottivakkam,do visit that place.
