T NAGAR

Thyagaraya Nagar or T Nagar is a foremost commercial hub in the city of Chennai. The place is located in the southern precincts of the city and has been named after a distinguished leader, P. Thyagaraya, of the Tamil Nadu state. The adjoining regions of Thyagaraya Nagar include Teynampet, West Mambalam and Azeez Nagar. In fact, the place has been referred by many as East Mambalam. The region provides some of the best shopping centers, business establishments, accommodation providers and other commercial enterprises.

Thyagaraya Nagar houses some well maintained parks. The parks are special features in the heart of the commercial centers, place one would hanker for amidst the cities hustle and bustle. Parks like Natesan Park, Panagal Park and Jeeva Park are real gifts in the city suburbs.

The markets of Thyagaraya Nagar are known places to shop in Chennai. The T.Nagar Market, Pondy Bazaar, Annai Sathya and Sarvana are replete with shops and stores that sell a whole lot of the products. Garments, jewellery, electronic products, toys are largely available at these places. The Food World, located on the Gopathi Narayanaswamy Road is one of the best places to buy the eatables.

Pondy Bazaar, the main shopping area, stretches for around a kilometer on Thyagaraya Road. Pavement shops found in Pondy Bazaar sell a variety of items, including clothes, toys, and electronics, at cheap rates. Bigger stores often sell both indigenous goods and imported designer brands.

The area around Panagal Park is known for its silk saree shops. Many prominent jewellery stores are also found here. The variety in shopping options makes T.Nagar one of the most crowded areas in Chennai during the festival seasons (usually beginning in October before Deepavali and ending in January after Pongal). The area around Panagal Park has seen the oncoming of new clothing stores, including RmKV, Kumaran, and Nalli, over the past few years.

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) is located on Venkatanarayana Road. It has a replica of Lord Venkateswara in Tirupati. Darshan bookings and one-day trips can be arranged here itself.

A Shiva-Vishnu temple is located near the bus depot.
