CONSULTATION WORKSHOP ON THE URBAN DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS IN T. NAGAR.
Chennai Corporation
conducted a consultation workshop, an interface with the T Nagar residents on
Tuesday to know the views of the public about the developmental
plans in T Nagar. Chennai Corporation has drawn up a vision statement of T
Nagar Urban Re-Development project - for developing T Nagar into a world class
shopping center. The workshop was inaugurated by M Subramanian, The Mayor .The
redevelop mental project has been
conceptualized by Chennai Corporation; covers 6.86 sq km area of T Nagar. The
Corporation has appointed Jones Lang LaSalle Meghraj [JLLM] and Town land
consultants to prepare the plans.
Tamilnadu Urban Infrastructure Financial Services [TNUIFSL} is to be
entrusted to monitor the project. About 70 people participated. People
expressed concern about commercial developments might infringe upon the quality
of residential life. They wanted the existing residential areas to be
classified.
T.Nagar especially the
south Usman road is awfully congested more that it has become a kind of shanty
than a shopping place. The Corporation must come out with very farsighted plan
which could include asking all the shoppers to redesign their shops. There could
be a rule in town planning that plan of any commercial establishment shall be
approved only with built in parking space for their customers
