Together with the rise in the need for container drinking water and the manifold levitation on the number of bubbletop manufacturing sections, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), southern regional office, has intensified inspections on the draw on fake ISI marks.

Since April, the BIS officials have been involved in 12 raids across several districts and held many packaged water units put up with false ISI marks. Most of the raids have been accompanied in the area like Chennai, Thiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts.

According to a survey, Chennai and its near vicinity suburbs devours 1.15 Crore litres of water daily. Of the total count of packaged drinking water units all over the state, Chennai and its neighborhood districts alone accounts for more than 350 units.

The BIS officials said that during their last year inspection, they have seized many units that misused ISI mark lacking suitable license or duplicating ISI mark. This year, we have planned to conduct nearly 32 raids so as to normalize the packages drinking water units.

Consumers ought to ensure the validity, batch number and date of filling on the water containers. The expiry period for packaged water in bubbletops and pockets is set to six months, said an official.

People can register their grievances about ISI mark misuse to us, via calling to: 044-22541220, said the official.
