Are Metro rail travel fares a reasonable one?

The 10 km metro train service between Alandur and Koyambedu will be open for the commuters within three months. There are a lot of questions being discussed about the fares before the launch. Metro rail official sources say that the fares will be in the range of Rs. 10 to Rs. 30. Passengers feel that the fares are on par with MTC deluxe buses or even A/c buses.
However, senior officials from Chennai Metro Rail Limited revealed that they will submit the final proposal to Tamil Nadu state Government and arrive with a final figure after getting approval. Some even fear that the existing fares will reduce the number of travelers considerably.
On the other hand, few others note that the Metro train service has been a successful one in Delhi as the prices range from Rs. 8 to Rs. 30 and fulfilled the needs of various sections of the society.
As far as Chennai Metro train is concerned, it primarily focuses on expanding access to the metro by ensuring world class amenities in every station. If it ensures good connectivity, then commuters will never mind paying more which ultimately helps to boost revenues in the future.
