Financial assistance for minority community students by the Backward Community Development Department.
Who gets the educational scholarships based on qualification & annual income levels?
This financial assistance is offered for the students in all government-run Engineering Colleges and all government-aided engineering colleges and some of the self-financed engineering colleges approved by the government.
This scholarship is also offered for M. B. A. & M. C. A. Courses.
Qualification-wise, the students who have completed +2, or the 3-year polytechnic courses, or completed graduation with 50% marks are eligible.
Do the college students need to apply every year for this scholarship?
Not necessary! The student will have to renew the scholarship every year. More important, the student should have scored 50% in the previous year’s final examinations. Only those students who already obtained the scholarship in the previous year can renew it. Others will have to apply fresh if the parents’ or guardians’ annual income does not exceed Rs. 2.5 Lakhs per year.
What is the maximum scholarship amount?
For getting the qualification & annual income based scholarship, all students studying in 5 institutions selected by the central government are eligible to get full scholarship.
For the students in other institutions, the expenses incurred as educational fees, library fees, and other compulsory payments will all be given at a maximum of Rs. 20,000/-.
For the students studying while staying in the hostel, monthly Rs. 1000/- will be paid from the date of joining the hostel. For the day-scholars, monthly Rs. 500/- will be paid for 10 months.
Which are the 5 institutions selected by the central government?
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Chennai, National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Chennai & Trichy, Indian Institute of Information Technology, design and Manufacturing (IIIT & DM) in Kanchipuram, and the Indian Institute of Management in Trichy.
