Central government has decided to introduce the latest facilities in the railway service. Naturally, this will be a huge expense and hence requires funds. Hence, the railways ministry has planned avenues to increase its revenue while at the same time providing the latest facilities.

As a part of the modernisation plan, a decision has been taken to convert all the current 2nd class coaches into 3rd class air-conditioned coaches. Activities for implementing this plan has already commenced.

As a part of this plan, train no 16859 running between Chennai Egmore & Mangalore which was a non-air-conditioned chair car, has now been converted into an air-conditioned coach . This facility has started from yesterday, 27th July.

The conversion from non a/c to fully a/c will be taken up gradually and introduced in all super-express and express trains. This will ensure that entire train has only air-conditioned coaches.

It is planned to implement the conversion within the next 6 years.

Meanwhile, Indian Railways has already ordered to reduce the manufacture of 2nd class coaches.

It can be expected that after the next 6 years, the ordinary 2nd class coaches will not be available!

And this plan to air-condition all trains will bring good additional revenue for the Indian Railways!
