Madras High Court seeks revision in autorickshaw fares

Posted on: 01/Nov/2014 12:59:42 PM
In a recent statement given by the Madras High Court, they have insisted review and revision of autorickshaw fares at least at a frequency of once in three months. This is done as a step to keep the auto fares in-line with the changing price of fuels.

Despite petrol hitting very low prices unlike past 17 months, no revision is made with regards to the auto fares. The same price which was fixed corresponding to fuel cost of Rs 74.49 per litre is maintained even after a significant decrease in fuel rates.

Following the peak hit of prices climbing to Rs 76.93 per litre in July, the price then dropped bellow Rs 70 on October 15. This continued with furthermore reduction in price last Friday and it was only Rs 67.01 a litre. Nevertheless all these changes in fuel rates, no change in autorickshaw fares is made so far.

It is to be noted that a revision in rate of autorickshaw fares was incorporated in all districts across the state except Chennai, as the city saw a revision last year.
