TANGEDCO announces extension of power cut relaxation

The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) will extend the peak hour power supply without restriction till January 15, 2016. This announcement comes as a relief to the high tension industries and commercial consumers.
These consumers have been facing a 90% power cut from 6pm to 10 pm, and a 20% cut during the non peak hours previously. A while earlier, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha had announced that the non peak hour cuts will be stopped for a short period for high tension industry consumers, starting June 5th this year. She had also announced that, till September 30th, 10% power cut will be offered during the peak hours. These announcements came in the wake of the peak of the wind power season in the State.
Officials said, The power situation has improved in the wake of commissioning of new power projects and increased supply from inter-state generators under the long-term agreement.
