Dip in Footfall at Retail Stores This Monsoon Season

Posted on: 26/Nov/2015 6:14:17 PM
Incessant rainfall before and after Diwali festival has brought down sales with the retail industry. If not, there would have been huge profits during this festival season. Many prospective buyers had to remain indoors due to water logging all around. This in turn reduced footfalls in stores leading to overall loss of about 15 percent in the retail industry, said a senior official.

Kumar Rajagopalan, the CEO of Retailers` Association of India said there was a 15 percent reduction in sales volume on the whole. This suffering was brought to the retail industry by the incessant showers.

B A Srinivasa, joint managing director of Viveks said the business will be at its peak during the last three days of the 15 days sale they announce. This year, due to rainfall, there were hardly any buyers in our outlets. We managed to scrape through with the last year earnings, he pointed.

Similar results were shared by Karthikayan M of Jyothi Dresses, Nungambakkam, a retail textile owner. He states that the heavy showers led to 10 percent lesser sale mainly on 8th and 9th of November. There was also an increase in expenses for transporting stock to and fro the godown through the waterlogged streets which further added to their grievances. He also pointed that transportation was too hectic and they had to shell out more for getting the stocks transported. The basement area was cleared where the clothes were usually stored. We cleared it with an anticipation of heavy showers that may damage the stock. There were damage even in stores present inside shopping malls as there were lesser footfalls which impacted their overall business.
