Salary to be credited to employee accounts directly

Posted on: 04/Feb/2016 9:47:08 AM
From 1st of April, the salary for 100 days employment scheme under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act 2005 can be obtained directly to the bank account.

Malpractice

During their rule, the Congress party introduced the hundred-day employment scheme for the empowerment of people at rural areas. It is called National Rural Employment Guarantee Act 2005. Those working under this scheme will receive Rs 100 as daily wage. This is at present being provided as cash. There are malpractices taking place in paying the salary promptly. Brokers take a percent of their salary towards commission and the workers receive the rest of the amount. There have been several complaints about the same.

Bank account

As a move to mark an end to this, the central government has announced that the salary will credited to the respective bank accounts of employees henceforth. It has been ten years since the launch of this scheme. Speaking at an event conducted to commemorate the completion of a decade of this scheme, Urban Rural Development Minister, Chowdry Virendra Singh announced this new move.

He further added that the salary will be directly credited to the employee`s bank account from 1st April. At present, nearly 94 percent of total salary is credited to the bank account directly.

Secret of success

The National Rural Employment Guarantee Act 2005 is deployed at all states with no delay of any sort. This is the primary reason for such a huge success of the scheme. Of the total sum, 64 percent is spent towards agriculture. About 57 percent of the beneficiaries are women. This is in fact higher than the recommended amount of 33 percent.

Total expense

Addressing the gathering, the minister of urban rural development said the amount allotted towards National Rural Employment Guarantee Act 2005 has raised to Rs 3,13,844 crore. Of this, 71 percent of it is spent towards salary payment to employees. In the following years, the scheme will get further simplified, he added.
