23 dead in bus accident near Vellore

At least 23 passengers of a Pollachi-bound private bus from Chennai were burnt to death when the bus caught fire after it overturned at Avalur, near Kaveripakkam, on the Chennai-Bangalore national highway late on Tuesday night. The spot is about 40 km from here.
According to reports, the bus, on its way to Tiruppur from Chennai, fell down the bridge as the driver lost control when he tried to overtake two vehicles.
One of the 24 passengers travelling in the bus managed to escape, police said.
The bus driver is reported have escaped after the accident.
