Lakhs of devotees thronged Rameswaram on the occasion of Mahodhaya Amavasai

Lakhs of devotees thronged Rameswaram today and took a holy dip in Agni Theertham and performed poojas to their departed ancestors on the occasion of Mahodhaya Amavasai. Mahodhaya Amavasai is considered as a highly auspicious day for performing rituals to the ancestors and forefathers.
The unique combination of New moon day and Thiruvonam star would combine tomorrow, which is observed as Mahodhaya Amavasai. It happens once in 27 years.
More than five lakh devotees from all over the country thronged Vedaranyam and Kodakarai to take part in Mahodaya Amavasai.
Mahodaya Amavasai was also celebrated in Kanyakumari and Thoothukudi.
