Legendary Chennai Landmark Central Station becomes a 3-way transport centre

Chennai Central Railway Station is one of the busiest places in the Metro city transporting lakhs of passengers every day.
A decision was taken to convert this city landmark into a 3-way transport centre – Train, Metro Rail, and Bus. Funds have been allotted accordingly for this project.
In this project to convert Chennai Central Station into a multi-transport centre, Chennai Metro Rail has been given funds of Rs. 389.42 Crores on behalf of CMDA.
Chennai Metro Rail Project is progressing at full swing. So far, Tamil Nadu government has given Rs. 3907 Crores and the central government, Rs. 2307 Crores to Chennai Metro Rail Project.
Apart from this, Japan`s International Cooperative Agency has given a loan of Rs. 7008 Crores.
In order to convert Chennai Central Railway Station as a multi-transport centre (train, metro-rail & bus), CMDA (Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority) has given funds of Rs. 389 Crores.
It is also to be noted that the interim budget has also provided Rs. 1032 Crores for Metro Rail Project.
