Union Cabinet approves the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission

Posted on: 29/Jun/2016 2:13:39 PM
The central government ministry has given its nod to increase the basic pay given to central government employees, as per the recommendations by 7th pay commission. This call was taken in a meeting headed by Narendra Modi and held in Delhi. This will benefit over 1 crore individuals who work with the central government or those who receive pension.

According to the 7th pay commission, the minimum salary for central government employees should be Rs 18,000 and the maximum is Rs 2.50 lakh. About 1 crore individuals will get benefitted out of this. An additional expenditure of Rs 1.02 lakh will be imposed on the central government due to this hike in pay.

In November last year, the pay commission had also insisted an increase in pay for the low level employees by 14.27 percent. The hike in pay announced in this pay commission was way too lesser as compared to the hikes made in the past 70 years. Hence a cabinet secretary committee headed by the ministry secretary P.K. Sinha was formed in order to make necessary changes in the pay commission.

This cabinet analyzed the recommendations of pay commission and submitted a report. Based on this, the finance ministry has framed a recommendation and sent to the ministry for approval.

This team headed by P.K. Sinha had recommended an increase in pay by 23.55 percent. The 7th pay commission had recommended increasing the minimum pay from Rs 7000 to Rs 18,00 and maximum pay from Rs 90,000 to Rs 2.5 lakh. The cabinet secretary committee has also suggested changes in this and requested for minimum pay of Rs 23,500 and maximum as Rs 3.25 lakh.
It was expected that the center will give its nod to the suggested revisions. However, the central ministry has approved the recommendations of the 7th pay commission and not that of cabinet secretary committee.

Dissatisfying move

Unlike the past 70 years, the 7th pay commission has decided to make the least hike in salary for central government employees. They claim that they are dissatisfied because of such unacceptable hike. They have also stated that the hike in pay has to be equivalent to the rising prices.
