It is a daily routine incident to find people new to the Chennai getting confused about the routes and the buses in the city. There is also the fear that it is not wise to ask for the route from any stranger who might be a thief.
In this situation, 5 youngsters, Arvindh, Dilip Kumar, Revanth, Rakshit, and Anand Kumar, have developed an App, Icommute, to get over the route problem for the outsiders from the city getting data from the Metro Transport Corporation and link it with customer groups.
They explained that Chennai Metro Transport Corporation has released data regarding the bus routes, starting point, the stops, time and bus fares in its website. This was obtained and linked with GPS facility to make the App.
A passenger who is waiting at a particular bus stop can use this App to know about the next bus stop and the routes plying in the route, time, and the starting and end stops. Once the passenger enters the starting and destination points, the App gives the details of which buses to travel, if it is more than 1 bus to reach the destination, etc. If the passenger enters the stop where he got into the bus, the other passenger waiting for this bus will automatically get informed.
If the bus takes an alternate route, or if the bus cannot move due to various reasons, or if additional buses are run, if these data are entered in the App, it will inform the others by cautioning them. Details regarding traffic congestion, the timing of the bus usually taken will all be informed as sms.
This App can be used for online information exchange and to know basic details offline.
The App Icommute was made last year. Now, thousands of passengers are using it. Currently, the team is working on developing an App for minibuses, electric train, and Metro train services. This App will be available in 2 months.
When the passengers save their route, they can get regular information regarding the route as reminders. During the rains and floods last year December, this App was shared by many people.
