Iron sulfate on Mars is the key to discover water

Investigators who are involved in collecting evidences of water in planet Mars have now found that there may be presence of iron sulfates which may bear chemically bound water which on the whole keeps the soil in this planet hydrated.

This is really exciting as it likely proves the presence of water on Mars, a planet that we have been behind for search for life there, said Nicole Button from Louisiana State University.

The scientists also discovered the association between sulfur and hydrogen which altogether can bring forth changes in soil hydration at finer regional scales. The study results are published in the Journal of Geophysical Research. According to the study made, it is likely that the southern hemisphere contains more chemically bound water, but it is not so with the northern hemisphere of Mars.

For this overall observation by the research team, several other hypotheses were also taken under consideration all of which suggest the presence of soil rich in iron sulfate that are wet even more than desiccated soil.
