In order to increase its revenue, the officials of Railways have taken various measures. As a part of this effort, Railways have plans to develop some land owned in Chennai city and convert them for commercial use.

There is plenty of land owned by the Railways in Chennai near many Railway stations. Though some of this land is under safe and good maintenance, some lands in North Chennai have been occupied by private parties. As per the regulations of the Coastal Discipline Board, development work could not be taken up in some of the lands lying near the overbridge Railway Stations.

In this scenario, the Railway Land Development Council officials held a detailed discussion with the Chennai Corporation and Tamil Nadu State Government higher officials to reclaim these lands and take them up for commercial use.

During the discussion, it was decided that the Chennai Corporation will coordinate in the removal of the unauthorized occupation of land owned by the Railways. Also, some regulations have been relaxed to permit development work.

So, new plans are being devised to prevent the unauthorised occupation of Railway land and then build commercial and residential complexes.
