Chain of initiatives to uplift education in Tamil Nadu

In a recent announcement made on Tuesday, Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha had stated that all the universities and affiliated universities in Tamil Nadu will be networked through cloud computing so as to extend services to students, teachers and researchers. The total estimated cost for this 3-year long process is Rs 160 crore.
 
There is growth in automobile industry in Tamil Nadu in leaps and bounds. Researches on vehicles consuming less carbon-di-oxide and fuel are thus a necessity in the state. Catering to this need, motor vehicle technology centre is to be set up at Anna University at a cost of Rs 50 crore.
 
Speaking at the assembly, under the rule 110, she said four year integrated courses in B.A, B.Ed, B.Sc and B.Ed will be introduced in Tamil Nadu. Villupuram and Nilgiris will have new zonal centres for the state. At a cost of Rs 50 crore each, international research development and training centres, and auditorium are to be set up at Anna University.
 
In same way as private engineering colleges give better exposure to their students by sending them to abroad universities for short term practical training, government college students will also be sent for such training abroad. About hundred deserving students handpicked from ten government colleges will be sent for such abroad training in universities or colleges, she said.
 
There will be new Indian Engineering Service Exam coaching centres at Chennai, Coimbatore, Dharmapuri, Tiruchy, and Tirunelveli. At an estimated sum of Rs 4.75 crore, the Madurai Kamaraj University will be turned into a multi specialty hospital.
 
She also added that students and teaching staff members at the university and people residing in hundred villages lying close to the university get benefited with the health centres. The university will have solar power facility, ground water storage scheme, and Wi-Fi connectivity at a cost of Rs 5 crore, indoor stadium and library at cost of Rs 6.75 crore, and revamping and modernization of hostel at Rs 1.10 crore.
 
As a move to aid students from poor or tribal backgrounds, new arts and science college is to be set up at Mettupalayam. There will also be one more college at Perumbakkam, at Kancheepuram district. A new training centre will be set up at Madurai. Here, over 100 students will get trained for non-destructive testing every year. A new video conferencing centre will also be launched at the Directorate of Technical Education in Chennai. Here, students can listen to internationally renowned experts’ speech on array of subjects.
