Amma Park and Amma Gyms in villages

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa announced in the Legislative Assembly Session yesterday (Monday, 29th August) that 500 Amma Parks and 500 Amma Gyms (Physical Exercise centre) will be set up in villages at a cost of Rs. 100 Crores. Self-help groups will be given loans for Rs. 6000 Crores.
500 Amma Parks will be set up by the village local administrations with entertainment for children, women, and senior citizen, sports, and physical exercise equipment, pavements, cement benches, drinking water facility, lawns, toilets and green gardens at a cost of Rs. 100 Crores this year.
500 Amma gyms or physical exercise centres will be set up for the village youngsters to develop their physical skills and mental skills at a cost of Rs. 100 Crores with Rs. 10 Lakhs allotted for each of the 500 gyms.
Women can improve their economic status if the facility of loans from the banks are given at the right time at low interest to the self-help groups. In the last 5 years, Rs. 26460 Crores have been disbursed as loans to the Women Self-Help Groups by the banks. This year, action will be taken to provide loans of Rs. 6000 Crores as bank loans for the self-help groups.
16.46 Lakhs of tube lights are in operation in the village streets in rural areas. These will be changed into LED lamps considering the proper maintenance, saving electrical energy, and extended life of the lamps. 8.24 lakhs tube lights will be changed to LED bulbs at a cost of Rs. 300 Crores. This work is already in progress. The balance 8.22 tube lights will also be changed with LED bulbs at a cost of Rs. 300 Crore.
Special pension
The retired employees of village development councils and local administrations have demanded that there should be an increase in the monthly pension given after retirement. This demand is accepted and the pension amount on retirement is increased from Rs. 50000/- to Rs. 60000/-. The special pension is increased from Rs. 1000/- to Rs. 1500/-.
