Corrections in the voters list to start tomorrow - special camps on 11th and 25th September

The corrections to be made in the voters list commences tomorrow (Thursday, 1st September) and will continue till 30th September. A  draft voters list will be released tomorrow. Special camps will be organised on 11th and 25th September.

A brief on the press release made by Tamil Nadu Election Chief Rajesh Lakhoni:

Keeping the voter’s ID card will not be enough to cast votes in the election. The name of the voter must be registered in the list of the ward of the resident. The corrections are made to ensure the registration of the name of the voter as well as his voter ID.

For carrying out the task of corrections, a draft voters list will be released tomorrow. This list can be seen on the website: www.elections.tn.gov.in.

On the dates of 10th and 24th September, the list of the voters along with the section and the ward will be read out in the Grama Sabha (Village councils), local administration and resident welfare associations and verified.

The draft voters list will be on display in the offices of the regional revenue officer, corporation commissioner, and the polling booths. It will be displayed in all the corporation ward offices in Chennai Metro. Apart from this, another facility is available to check the inclusion of voter names in the website: electoralservicessearch.azurewebsites.net

If the individual wants to include the name in the voter list, he/she should have completed 18 years of age as on 1st January 2017. He/she  should be a resident of the ward.

Applications can be given to correct voter data from 1st September till 30th September.Special camps are being organised for this correction activates on voters list on the 2 Sundays on 11th and 25th September.

If the name has to be entered fresh, unregistered in any other ward, or the voter has shifted residence, form 6 should be filled up and submitted. Indians residing abroad in foreign countries must fill form 6A and submit.

If the change of address is in the same constituency, Form 8A must be filled. For removal of names from the voter list, form 7 must be used. For correction of name, age, gender, relationship, and correct photo, form 8 must be filled.

These forms are available in the respective ward offices where they can be submitted after filling.The forms can be submitted online in the website of the Election Commission. The forms can be downloaded.

Except for those who are applying for the first time, others should give the previous address and photo ID number. If a person shifts his residence, the ID card issued would be valid in the new place as well throughout the country.

For the age proof, birth certificate, school certificate, or a copy of the passport can be given. For residence proof, copies Bank passbook (first page), Kisan/Post Office Accounts passbook, ration cards, passports, driving licences, IT office orders, bills of payment for electricity, telephone, and drinking water or gas connection or any postal letter, rent/lease agreement, or Aadhar card can be given.

The Indians residing a abroad can send the application by post to the registering Officer. Copies of passport and Visa should be attached.

Before the issue of the Voter ID card, a polling booth staff will visit for checking the details on the given addresses. The list of any demands or rejections will be released on the internet website of the Chief Election Commissioner. If there is any objection, the voter can submit the same at the office of the registering officer.
