Internet users in India are BOLD enough, survey

In survey involving internet users in 14 different countries, it is found that Indians stand atop with 30 percent of users ready to share sensitive information when they are on a public Wi-Fi. Personal information such as work mails, credit card details are some of those accessed using public Wi-Fi. There were just 19 percent and 18 percent people in Mexico and Brazil who were ready for the same.

The survey conducted by Intel Security also indicated that more than one in three Indians could not stay unplugged when they went on for a vacation. About 84 percent of Indians who go on vacation get connected to the internet. When they get such access, they do not hesitate to share sensitive information, without being afraid of cyber risks involved in getting access to credit card information or work mails or other confidential personal information, says Venkat Krishnapur, the Intel Securitys India Development Centre R&D operations head.

As compared to others, Indians readily share their personal information like details of credit cards, login names and passwords while being on a public Wi-Fi. About 36 percent i.e. more than one in three Indians were ready to access their personal data in spite of knowing that it may be vulnerable. This survey involved interviewing nearly 1,423 Indians ageing between 21 and 54. And globally, about 14,000 customers were interviewed too.
