Posted on: 22/Sep/2016 3:20:09 PM
Following the launch of Google Duo, the dedicated video calling app, Google has now launched its next messaging platform called Google Allo. This comes awakening of the increasing number of such messaging platforms.

Too many mobile messaging apps are being offered by various providers, each with their own USP, most of them being similar though. Here is a brief on all these popular messaging apps to get you an idea on which is best.

WhatsApp - the most favorite messaging app in India

Indians love using WhatsApp. Here, this is among the commonest multimedia messaging apps. It keeps getting itself updated very often. Over years, there have been so many feature updates with the excellent support by its developing team. End to end encryption, reading scripts, document sharing options, adding stars to messages, audio calls, etc are among the notable features.

Sharing photos and videos either from gallery or with live capture using camera, sharing contact, location, documents, audio, etc are available on the platform and there is a separate option to record audio too. GIF support on the app is the latest addition made in the app along with Apple iOS 10 API support.

Facebook messenger

The app was initially launched in 2011, but got split from Facebook and emerged as a dedicated messaging platform in 2014. Facebook also launched its email service where users can send mails as their preferred mail id tailed with @facebook.com. Secret messaging where the messages will get wiped off, drawing images, stickers, etc are the features on Facebook messenger. The chat heads feature on this platform is unique as it is not seen in any other app.

Sharing photos, locations and documents is possible here too. But document sharing can be done only using the desktop version. Though the user accounts are not based on the mobile numbers, it is possible to identify profiles using one’s mobile number. Apart from launching a dedicated messenger website, there is also going to be SMS integration in the app. There will be no need to add files in cloud when it has to be shared with others, users can keep continuing to play games while being on chat, and there are many other features too.

Google Allo - the latest entrant

The latest entrant in the list of messaging platforms is Google Allo. It got launched yesterday and available on Play Store now. Google has got a dedicated video calling platform called Google Duo, and the new Allo is for text messaging. The Google Duo has got an exclusive feature called the Knock Knock that lets users view the video even before accepting the video call.

The features included are sharing animated stickers from Sticker stores, customizing text message size, contextual replies supported by the natural language processing engine, etc. Though the messages are encrypted, there are a few privacy issues in the app. Under the Incognito option, the users can set time for secret messages to get automatically deleted similar to conversation mode on Facebook Messenger.

There are many other platforms including Apple’s iMessaging and Snapchat. Telegram is one other platform being widely used for both personal and prprofessional needs.
