15 judges to be appointed in Madras High Court

Very soon 15 judges will be appointed in the Madras High Court. The files connected with this have been sent to the President of India for his approval. The sanctioned posts for judges in Madras High Court are 75. Now there are only 39 judges. 36 judges post are remaining vacant.
 
The Madras high court collegium headed by Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul had shortlisted and forwarded 30 names - 19 lawyers and 11 senior district judges - in February this year. Of the 30 names, a total of 24 had been cleared by the Supreme Court for appointment, and the Centre is expected to appoint them in two batches
 
These 15 names are part of a batch of 24 cleared by the Supreme Court Collegium in July. Of the 15, nine are from among lawyers and six from the subordinate judiciary. The presidential clearance is likely to be given by next week. The nine lawyers are V. Parthiban, R. Subramaniam, M. Govindaraj, M. Sundar, R. Sureshkumar, Ms. Nisha Banu, M.S. Ramesh, S.M. Subramaniam and Dr. Anita Sumanth. The six district judges are S. Baskaran, Basheer Ahmed, G. Jayachandran, C.V. Karthikeyan, R.M.T. Teeka Raman and N. Seshasayee.
