Pepsi/Coke sales down by 75 percent in Tamil Nadu

The President of the Tamil Nadu Traders Associations’ Confederation Vikarama Raja has informed that the sales of the foreign drinks coke/Pepsi have come down by 75 percent in Tamil Nadu mainly because of the integrated effort and propaganda of the students, youth, and traders,
In this regard, he had a session with the press reporters. A brief on the same:
During their protest against the ban on Jallikattu, the students and the youth community undertook the promise that they would stop drinking foreign-made cool drinks. Consequently, TheTamil Nadu Traders Association announced on 1st March that they would stop selling Pepsi and coke.
As a result, the sales of Pepsi/coke has come down by 75 percent in the last few weeks.
The Tamil Nadu Traders keep rejecting the inventory brought by the agents of Pepsi/coke. It is strongly expected that Pepsi/coke will not be sold in any shops after 1st March.
The film actors/actresses have also been strongly recommended to avoid on the sales promotion advertisements for these drinks. If it fails, the association will join with the students and the youth community to emphasize this.
The traders from various other states including the Northen states have approached for selling locally made drinks such as Padhaneer (made from the palm tree). We have stressed a few points to them. Padhaneer will be made available in most of the shops shortly.
Many trading shops have been sealed because of the reason that provision for parking has not been taken care of. Thousands of traders have been severely affected by this. This problem must be solved with a permanent solution by joint discussions between the state government and the traders.
Earlier, the members of the Jallikattu Ban Protest Committee, Devaraj, Jaleel, Craze Balu, and Gayathri met Mr. Vikramaraja and thanked him for the cooperation extended by the traders association in stopping sales of coke/Pepsi and also closing the shops in support of the protest by the student/youth community.
At this juncture, the administrators of the Traders Association federation, A. M. Sadakathulla, S. Periasamy, P. Pandiyarajan, and others were present.
State conference on 5th May
Over 10 Lakh traders are expected to participate in the State Conference scheduled to be conducted at Villupuram on 5th May, the Traders’ Day. Mr. Vikramarajs informed that invitations have been sent to the central and state ministers and representatives of traders association to participate in this conference.
He also informed that the main objective of this conference is to protest against the recently imposed laws/regulations on the Food Safety issues by the central government.
