Chennai during the nights is cooler now.  It is now said that this cooler nights in Chennai would remain till Saturday 27th January and this has been confirmed by the weather experts now. The reason for the cooler nights is due to the fact that land breeze continue to flow below warmer moisture rich sea breeze. It is also brought out that the night temperature in Chennai is down by 1 degree to 2 degree now and after Saturday the temperature would be on the rise gradually.

Radiational cooling and development of land breeze were cited as the factors responsible for the drop in the temperatures and this was confirmed by Mr Y.E.A. Raj who is former deputy director general of regional meteorological centre.

Mr. Raj spoke about how the surface of the earth radiates great amount of heat during the cloudless nights and this results in the coolness of the atmosphere. Land breeze also plays its part in bringing the temperatures down.

It is revealed that on Thursday, 25th of January, the night temperature was 21.3 degrees and it was recorded before the sunrise. It is now said that on Friday 26th January, the minimum and maximum temperatures would be 21 degrees and 30 degrees.

It is now brought out that during the nights while the land temperatures is about 23 degrees sea temperatures rises to 27 degrees and this results in change in the wind direction.

Mr .Raj shared his thoughts and said land breeze is lighter when compared to the sea breeze and land breeze blows at speed of around 3km per hour to 4 km per hour. Sea breeze blows at the speed above 20km per hour. He also threw light on how during the months of January and February the land breeze sets at around 3 am in the morning and sustains till 8 am. Later the temperature rises as stronger sea breeze takes over.
