A recent news flooded among the social and other media about the introduction of new 13 digit mobile numbers in India. This created a buzz around the population especially after the Aircel Network shutdown problem. But this 13 digit mobile number is not for the regular customers using Indian Telecom network connections. BSNL announced this only for SIM based M2M devices.

Miscommunication about the termination of 10 digit format phone numbers and implementing 13-digit format from July 2018 spread very fast among people. BSNL actually announced this for tablet devices using the SIM based M2M technology connecting various software and hardware applications to the mobile devices.

For instance a company’s CCTV camera can be controlled and viewed with the help of the admin’s device using this SIM network connected M2M devices. Many household applications and other office applications are being connected through this technology. The number format for this technology will use 13 digit format which is very common in many Asian countries for the normal mobile connections.

Regulations from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a UN agency for information and communication technologies allows till 15 digit format and so the 13 digit format is applicable worldwide and already approved from the Communication board of India.
