As many as 117 post graduate medical seats now returned to Tamil Nadu state pool

It is known that 823 post graduate medicals seats have been surrendered by Tamil Nadu to the Centre’s Director-General of Health Services or CGHS. Now the news is out of these 823 seats as many as 117 post graduate medical seats did not have any takers and therefore returned to TN state pool.
It must not be forgotten that in the year 2017, DGHS returned as many as 335 post graduate medicals seats and that was out of the total of 760 seats.
There are 1646 post graduate medical seats at the government run medical colleges in the state of TN. Out of these as many as 823 seats were surrendered to the DGHS in the month of March 2018 for the sake of centralised online counselling.
On 23rd of April 2018, 117 post graduate medical seats in various specialities did not have any takers and was returned to TN state pool. This was after the end of 2 rounds of counselling and mop up counselling. Under the state quota in the government colleges there would be 940 post graduate medicals seats available now.
According to state selection committee secretary, Dr. Selvarajan, apart from the 940 seats there would also be seats from self financing medical colleges.
Many states are in different stages of counselling and DGHS has finished the procedure. The date for counselling is not yet announced by TN. This is because of the fact that Madras High Court has struck down the government order detailing state policy on the incentive marks awarded to in-service candidates. To go on appeal to the Supreme Court, the TN state is now waiting for the certify copy of the order.
It is known that in the year 2017, post graduate admission process had many legal issues and admission was cancelled. Fifty percent of seats were given to all India quota and half of the remaining seats were reserved for doctors working with the government. This was done by the TN state government.
Director of Medical Education, Dr. Edwin Joe expressed his views and spoke about how it is tough to complete the admission process before 31st of May and how there is no time.
