Corporation introduces Smart Cards for paying Taxes

By the end of June Civic Body will roll out the provision of Corporation Smart Cards enabling the tax payment of three departments. This digital application of Corporation is partnered up with ICICI Bank mediating between general public and Tax departments.
Through these smart cards one can pay Property Tax, Profession Tax and Water Tax simply by recharging the smart cards in all 196 e-Seva centers in the city. Electricity bills can also be paid with these smart cards and one of the Officials in Corporation mentioned about different offers for the residents having these Corporation smart cards.
There are plans to list out more servicing options through these single smart card, starting from MRTS and MTC Buses, Metro Rails, Parking centers to all kinds of general platforms. It is designed to implement a common mobility smart card for all kinds of governmental or state owned public services and also for some private services and applications as well. Reports said that this kind of common card system is already in effective usage in countries like Hong Kong. The same method is adopted here keeping the local conditions in mind with simple recharge and out-swipe methods.
If the trial versions are successful and people finding it very smart and useful the further development to incorporate the cards for private applications like Movie Ticket booking, Grocery shops and other retail outlets.
The Officials of City Corporation conducted a meeting with ICICI Bank for the financial and commercial stability of Integrated Common Card Payment System. Many conceptual perceptions regarding the payment and usages of the smart cards are analyzed and escalated for the development. After the analysis of initial card swiping and successful transaction with the ICICI bank the plans to proceed the idea with each and every public applications will be commenced.
Many campaigns are designed to promote the common card system and for raising funds to implement the system in all kinds of civic services and other general mass applications. Residents can pay civic taxes and payments directly in the respective governmental centers and the special mode of paying it on the banks was not successful as planned crediting the failure to the bank staffs reluctance and non-governance. Now the online method of payment is getting popular and the recent scenario witnessing a widespread increase in the wireless payment methods. Keeping all this on account the City Corporation is expecting a warm welcome for this Integrated Common Card Payment System.
