Vaikasi Visakam Festival at Vadapalani Murugan temple from 18th May to 8th June

The grand festival of Vaikasi Visakam is set to be celebrated at the famous Chennai Vadapalani temple of Lord Muruga from 18th May to 8th June.

Among the various festivals celebrated for the Lord Muruga, Vaikasi Visakam festival is the most important occasion. This is celebrated in a grand manner in all the ancient Lord Muruga temples throughout the world.

Accordingly, the Vaikasi Visakam festival in the famous Chennai Vadapalani Lord Muruga temple is set to be celebrated from 18th May (Friday) to 8th June (Friday).

On the 1st day of the Vaikasi Visakam festival at 5.00 PM on 18th May (Friday), the festival starts with the deity of the Lord Vinayaka will be taken on the carriage of Mouse in a procession.

On the 2nd day of the festival, the flag-hoisting ceremony will be performed at 7.00 AM on 19th May (Saturday).

The Panchamurthy procession (the ensemble of the 5 major deities in the temple) will be performed on at 7.00 PM on 23rd May (Wednesday).

The divine rope-drawing of the chariot will be performed at 7.00 AM on 25th May (Friday). At 7.00 PM on 27th May (Sunday), the deity of Lord Muruga will be taken on a procession.

On the most important day of the festival of Vaikasi Visakam, on 28th May (Monday) at 8.00 Am, the deities of Lord Shanmuga (Muruga) along with His Consorts Valli and Deivayanai will be taken on a procession on the streets around the temple,

At 12.00 Noon, the event of Theerthavari will be performed. At 6.00 PM, the grand event of the divine marriage will be performed. At 7.00 PM, the deity of the Lord Muruga on the carriage of the peacock will be taken on a procession.

The event of the procession on Pushpa Pallakku is scheduled at 7.00 PM on 29th May (Tuesday).

Art and cultural programmes

After the above schedule, the art and cultural performances including music recital, Bharathanatyam, religious discourses, fol songs, and bommalattam will be performed at 7.00 PM from 30th May (Wednesday) to 8th June (Friday).
