First joy ride in new metro service in Chennai - Few details

On 25th of May 2018, inauguration of 6 metro stations along the Nehru Park to Central and from Saidapet to AG-DMS took place and it caught the attention of many. This inauguration was witnessed by huge public and many people showed their enthusiasm and eagerness to travel in the metro service. It is superb that test trial would go on for 2 days and there would not be any amount collected from the public travelling in this metro service between Central to airport and AG-DMS to Little Mount. Till Saturday night this free service of metro rail would be available as a part of test trial. It must be noted that the first joy ride started at the Egmore metro station.
It is well known that this Egmore station is spread across 8000 sq m of land and has got 4 entry and exit points. The people coming from other states at the Egmore railway station could walk and reach this Egmore metro station as the distance between suburban railway station and metro station is not that much.
This above mentioned inauguration has come at a time when the prices of diesel and petrol are on the rise plus ever increasing traffic congestion in the Chennai city. This metro travel is cheap when compared to travelling by an auto or by a cab. A passenger expressed his views and spoke about how the travel in metro service was hassle free due to proper linking to inter nodal transport.
Similar to the facilities that are available in other underground metro stations the newly inaugurated stations also have got facilities in them. For all the stretches during the peak hours the frequency of metro service is 10 minutes now. In the future depending on the patronage the time gap would be lowered to 5 or 7 minutes also.
