Vandalur Zoo gets 7 new bird species

About 7 different bird species were locally rescued and kept quarantined at a Veterinary hospital for particular time period. These birds are now seen with good health. They are now kept for display for the visitors, say Zoo officials.

They are of very vivid colors and got unique calls. They are sure to attract a number of visitors. These 7 species includes

  • Scarlet Macaw
  • Catelina Macaw
  • Harlequin Macaw
  • Severe Macaw
  • Dusky Pionus
  • Ruppels Parrot
  • Orange- winged Amazon

Of these, most of them are seen in central and southern American nations.

There are 89 different bird species seen in Arignar Anna Zoological Park counting to a total of 1,604. Out of these, 61 of them are native species and 28 of them are exotic ones. With scientific management practices followed in the zoo, there are excellent breeding observed in these birds, says a zoo official.

The other kind of birds seen in the zoo includes

  • Parrots
  • Silver Pheasants
  • Red and Green Macaws
  • Blue Macaws
  • Grey Cockatiels
  • White peacocks, etc
There are renovated bird houses in the zoo. The Anna Zoological Parks is widespread across 1.5 acres of land which is the biggest in India.
