Let us celebrate Deepavali grandly without any accidents or pollution

The most prominent Hindu Festival Deepavali is celebrated to signify the triumph of good over evil and also a true reflection of our culture and tradition with the tradition of an oil bath, new clothes, taking a good feast with sweets, and greeting all friends and relatives!
A petition was filed in the Supreme Court to ban the bursting of crackers on this occasion. However, giving due consideration to the fact that over 2 Lakh employees work in the cracker-related industry in a direct or an indirect manner and also the tradition of the people, the state government of Tamil Nadu joined several others in opposing this proposal.
In the verdict given by the honourable judges on this issue, released dated 23rd October, it was ordered that the crackers must be manufactured with ingredients which would not harm/pollute the environment and also only green crackers should be manufactured in future.
In its verdict, the Supreme Court emphasized that substantial awareness must be created among the public about the pollution created by the bursting of crackers. It also insisted that the state governments should take responsibility for the public to burst crackers in only selective locations.
The Supreme Court also ruled that on the day of Deepavali, crackers should be burnt only between 8.00 PM to 10.00 PM.
The state government of Tamil Nadu appealed that 2 hours would not be sufficient and requested the Supreme Court to extend it to 4 hours. However, the Supreme Court rejected this request and ordered that crackers must be burnt only for 2 hours on Deepavali but the Tamil Nadu government can choose its own timing of these 2 hours.
Based on this, the Tamil Nadu government has announced that crackers can be burst in 2 sessions 6.00 AM to 7.00 AM in the morning and 7.00 PM to 8.00 PM during the evening/night.
In all the corporations in the state of Tamil Nadu, The Department of Pollution Control will measure the extent of pollution during the period from 7 days to Deepavali and the next 7 days after Deepavali.
It is the responsibility of every citizen to keep the good quality of the environment, Every citizen must keep this into consideration.
The measures to be taken by the public to celebrate a safe, accident-free, and pollution-free Deepavali:
- The Public must burn only the type of crackers with the low noise level and create less pollution.
- With prior approval from the local administration, the public should gather in selected open spaces and burst crackers together through the welfare associations in the respective localities.
Must avoid
- Avoid crackers with chain bursts creating continuous high-decibel noise for a longer duration.
- Avoid bursting crackers near hospitals, places of worship, and peace-zones.
- Avoid bursting crackers in areas where it is easier to catch fire such as the hutment areas
