Last train for metro services joins the daily run

It has been a long journey for Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) starting the services in Chennai. After five years of commencement the CMRL has now brought in the last train (42nd train) from Sri City for project’s Phase I. The 42nd metro train found the gates on Thursday and about to start its journey soon said the latest sources of Chennai Metro.

With a total budget of Rs. 14,600 crore Phase I will have 42 trains running for the complete stretch. All the trains were manufactured by Alstom, nine of the train built in Sao Paulo, Brazil and rest in Sri City. The trains reached the city few years ago with few exceptions that are now completed for the full 45 kilometer stretch.

All the trains were stationed in the premises of Chennai Metro Rail Limited depot in Koyambedu. At present Phase I runs 36 km operational trains throughout the city and after the month of January on the completion of the total project the stretch would cover 45 km in and around the metropolitan.

The latest update from CMRL confirms the frequency of peak hour services down to five minutes from the older seven minute interval. This will come into service by the end of next month said the sources. Also test runs for the stretches for AG-DMS to Government Estate and Chennai Central to Washermanpet will be conducted on Tuesday. After completing the test run along with the signaling software compilation to the ride the trains will be opened for official travel.
