By February, many congested places in Chennai to have smart parking slots

Places like Anna Nagar, Purasawalkam and T. Nagar etc in Chennai city are highly congested. The latest news is Chennai Corporation has earmarked as many as 4258 parking slots in many congested places. The deadline fixed by the union government for issuing work orders for smart projects was 28th of February. It is now said that the civic body is confused about starting works on many such smart city projects. It must be taken into account that the union government had already set a deadline of 31st December as the date for tendering worth smart city projects worth amount of Rs 1 lakh crore in India.

On Friday, 11th January 2018, a review meeting was conducted by the officials belonging to the central government on smart city projects. An official stated that the work on identifying smart parking slots would be completed soon and in the first week of February the parking management system would start functioning. Official revealed that Corporation of Chennai had already installed smart cameras along the roads like Second Avenue, Third Avenue, Fourth Avenue, 11th Main Road, 15th Main road and 18th Main Road. He added that the corporation had fixed 125 cameras in Anna Nagar for parking management system and it would have 1673 parking slots.

It is worth mentioning that Purasalwalkam would have 385 parking slots along the road including Purasawalkam High Road and T. Nagar would get 2200 parking slots along the 19 roads like Sivagnanam Road etc. The official of the corporation spoke about how all the vehicles in these parking slots would be monitored in real time for the parking management system. He hinted that the work on cycle sharing system would start in February. He finally shed light on the 250 cycles that have reached Chennai city and the cycles being kept in Amma Arangam in Shenoy Nagar in Chennai.

In the year 2015 the centre launched Smart Cities Mission and the GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation commissioned just 6 projects is known. The truth is just 25% of work on Rs 970 crores worth Smart Cities Mission project has been completed in Chennai.
