Chennai airport passenger services to be upgraded by Airport Authority of India

Posted on: 20/Feb/2019 10:01:28 AM
Recently it was found by a survey that the Chennai airport’s quality service had declined and this had resulted in the dip in the ratings now. The latest news is AAI or Airport Authority of India have stepped up the efforts to provide better services within the limitations caused by the ongoing construction of new terminal and a multilevel car parking.

The point is the commuters have expressed their grievances regarding baggage delivery, flight information board, retail shops with good pricing, Wi-Fi, toilets etc in the Airports Council International’s Airport Quality Service Survey. It must be noted that there has been a dip in the ranking by 10 points now. In the year 2017 the Chennai airport was ranked 53 and in the year 2018 it was ranked 63. This was as per the survey that was conducted in as many as 20 AAI airports.

It is now revealed by a senior official belonging to AAI that most of these issues would not be there by March or June because tenders were floated to purchase new baggage trolleys, renovate toilets plus to introduce new internet connectivity covering the entire terminals, extending the length of baggage conveyor to accommodate more bags and for building a multi-level car park.

Currently there are 990 baggage trolleys and soon around 2200 baggage trolleys would be purchased. Not only that there would also be the presence of broader flight information boards in Chennai airport. By the month of March these would be imported as the orders have been placed already. This was also confirmed by an official. The problem regarding insufficient ATM machines would be solved as more ATM machines would be installed soon.

The important piece of information collected is a contract is in place with a new service provider to provide Wi-Fi coverage for the entire terminal. The official later explained about how the toilets would be renovated in phases and how these toilets would be ready in 8 to 9 months for both domestic as well as for international terminals. There would also be the extension of the length of baggage conveyor belt so that the baggage delivery time would be reduced.
