Chennai Central turns to solar power now

The main railway terminus in the Chennai city is Chennai Central station. This terminus connects Chennai city to other important parts of India like New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata etc is known. In south India, this Chennai Central station is the busiest railway station and this station is grabbing the attention of many now.

It is revealed that the southern railway had turned to solar power in an effort to protect the environment and save conventional energy. To generate solar power, the southern railways had set up rooftop solar panels at the Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. MGR Central railway station.

The information collected is the railways have been generating 600 kw of solar power from the solar panels now. The sensational piece of news is southern railways have been saving 25 % of conventional energy per day after the installation of the solar panels. An amount of Rs 1.5 crores is being saved by the railways every month. It must be noted that the railways have installed roof top solar panels at the suburban station, adjacent to Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. MGR Central station and Egmore railway station to generate 800 kw and 250 kw of power from these railway stations in Chennai.

In as many as 12 stations in the state of TN and in the state of Kerala, southern railways have installed roof top solar panels for the generation of cost effective an eco-friendly power. It is superb to mention here that TN has been generating 2393.51 kWp of solar power and Kerala has been generating 398 kWp.
