It is in their teenage most boys and girls want to make an identity of their own by coming out of the shadows of their parents.

It must be taken into account that parents would be highly concerned about their teenaged children and would try to protect them from issues like drugs, smoking, drinking, teenage sex, etc. There is a lot of difference between overprotective and being involved in the kid’s lives.

There are a few pessimistic effects of overprotective parenting. These are

Lack of self-confidence:

The children might feel that they might not be able to taste success in their lives without continued guidance of their parents. This is one major side effect or negative impact of over protecting parenting.

The illusion of control:

Point to be taken into account is parents themselves might believe that they have a handle on being able to keep their kids safe and protected by being overprotective. It is revealed that this might result in an illusion of control over their kids.

Lack of self-esteem:

It is brought out that overprotective parenting could lead to lack of development of self-esteem in the kid. The reason for this is the kid is not allowed to handle challenges on their own without their parent involvement.

Increases risk-taking behavior:

It is revealed that the children of overprotective parents could involve in risk-taking behavior more. As teenage boys and girls become free from their parents they could get involved in sexual activities, drug intake, etc. It must be noted that the teenaged boys and girls often test the boundaries of their overprotective parents as they would not have developed a sense of responsibility for their actions.
