Activities undertaken to prevent water shortage in days ahead

Chennai Metropolitan Water Development Board has initiated several activities to prevent water shortage during the coming summer.
With the failure of the last monsoon season, the water level at all major reservoirs are low with a total of 3142 million Cubic Foot. Groundwater levels have also gone lower. Severe water shortage is expected during summer. Hence , various preventive measure are undertaken.
Deep Bore well pumps are installed at Neyveli and Thamaraipakkam making for 11 million litres of water.
At Poondi, Minjur, and Thamaripakkam, agricultural bore wells are drilled to make for 40 million litres of water daily.
Tanks of 3000 litre capacity have been installed in 10245 places of higher consumption.
