Ekkattuthangal and Arumbakkam to have CMRL shopping malls

Back in the year August  2018, the Delhi metro rail officials were put in awe as they noticed residents who walk out of stations travel in droves in just a few hours after the 8.1km stretch called the shoppers’ corridor  got opened. This was the junction to 4 main markets that include the Sarojini Nagar. Now it is not even 2 years and the Chennai is also likely to have such shops to grab a bite, and get into the metro train, as opening of shopping malls along Ekkattuthanagl and Arumbakkam by the CMRL is likely soon. Such commercial complexes are believed to increase revenue to the metro.

Near the Ekkatuthangal metro station, there is going to be a 11-storey building and nearby Arumbakkam station, there is going to be 7-storey building. Necessary tenders for the same are already floated. There is going to be enough space for retail shops and offices.

The buildings are to be constructed along 17,868 sq.ft. area at Arumbakam, and across 40,558 sq.ft. in Ekkattuathangal. These are to get connected with the metro stations that lie close to it.

Either of the buildings will have commercial developments. In the lower levels, there will be ret ail and in the upper level, there are going to be office spaces. Furthermore, 2 basement levels will be there at Ekkattuthangal and also Arumbakkam to serve the parking needs. In 18 months, the entire construction will get over.

For eateries and other kinds of shops, there are going to be transit hubs at Alandur and Central.

In the beginning, plans were made to construct commercial complex at Alandur and Ashok Nagar. However, the plan at Alandur is shelved because the expansion of space for phase-2 project is being carried out and technical studies at Ashok Nagar are being carried out to design and construct the complex.

In spite of having planned 4 years ago, construction clearance is causing the delay in carrying out the work.
