There were successive holidays on the occasion of Pongal from 12th January to 16th January with government and private sector offices, schools, and colleges being closed,  During this period, the demand which was generally 14200 MW on 11th January, came down to 11870 MW on 15th January. On 16th January, the demand was 11110 MW. On 17th January, the demand was just 10950 MW.

However, with the holidays drawing to a conclusion, all the offices, schools, and colleges have started functioning again. So, the demand yesterday (21st January, Monday) shot up to 13320 MW! It will continue to increase further.
