Government changes the eligibility qualification for computer science teachers

Posted on: 18/Feb/2019 12:05:45 PM
The state government has changed the academic qualifications for eligibility for the posts of computer science teachers and accordingly has issued new orders.

For the classes from 1st standard to 5th standard, those who have completed the middle-level teachers training course are appointed as computer science teachers. For the classes from 6th standard to 10th standard, the teacher must have completed graduation and B. Ed. Besides, the candidate must have passed TET (Teachers Eligibility Test).

However, for the teachers teaching +1 and +2 classes, a pass in TET is not mandatory. However, the candidate must have completed postgraduation and B. Ed.

When Computer Science was introduced as a subject for the +1 and +2 classes in 1998, candidates who had completed a diploma in computer science were appointed as teachers for this. Later, the candidates who had completed B. Sc. (Computer Science) and B. Ed. were appointed as teachers for computer science. After this, no new appointments were undertaken. At the same time, the candidates who had completed B. Sc. (Computer Science) were not allowed to write TET. The candidates with B. Sc. (Computer Science) strongly protested this and still demanding permission to write TET.

In order to end this issue, the state government of Tamil Nadu has released a new order. It is mentioned:

As per the rules and regulations of the National Teachers Education Council, only postgraduates with B. Ed. will be eligible for appointment as computer science teachers for the classes of +1 and +2. The candidates should have secured a minimum of 50% marks.

Presently, there are 814 vacancies as against the total of 2680 computer teachers required in the government high schools.

As per the above-revised qualification eligibility, computer science teachers are to be appointed as Computer Trainer Grade-1 through TRB (Teachers Recruitment Board).

Those who are presently working as computer science teacher are to be designated as Computer Trainer Grade-2, Those who are in Grade-2 category will be considered of up-gradation or promotion as Grade-1 category if they have completed post graduation and also have 7 years of experience.

In cases vacancies are arising in Group-1 category due to various reasons including death, etc., this vacancy will be upgraded as Grade-1 category.
