Many women face difficulties during the time of emergencies. The important piece of news that has emerged out now is a ‘Panic Button’ an Emergency Response Support System for women was launched on Tuesday, 19th February 2019 across the 16 districts belonging to Tamil Nadu.

The point to be noted is women would be able to make emergency calls by using a single number ‘112’ when they are in distress. By dialling the number `112`, the women would be connected to the police, fire and health plus other helpline through ERC or Emergency Response Centre. A woman must first dial 112 from the phone and then press the power button on the smartphones three times and they would be connected to ERC.

Sometimes a woman might not have a smartphone and it is said that these woman must long press 5 or 9 key on their phone to activate the panic call. It is worth mentioning that ERC would associate with DCC or District Coordination Centres deployed by the respective states and by this seamless service could be got.

The important point is the ministry of home affairs has played its role in coming up with a suite of smart software applications and this could be used by the team of call takers and dispatchers.

The information collected is the call takers would be equipped to the source location of the caller through interaction or by smart phones GPS location services. To implement the ERSS project across India, the central government had allocated an amount of Rs 321.69 crores from the Nirbhaya Fund.

Additional commissioner of Police, Mr. M. Ravi, expressed his thoughts and spoke about how in the cases of health emergencies most people are not aware of whom to contact as there were many numbers like 100, 108 etc available. In USA, there is a number `911` to contact during emergency times but India does not have any such number. He finally highlighted that by implementing `112` the people would not have any difficulty at the times of emergencies. In another 6 months of time this number 112 would come into existence.
