Southern Region Accounted for Close to a quarter of Indian Engineering Exports with Tamil Nadu at the top over the past 2 years

Southern states contributed close to one-fourth of the country’s engineering exports, with Tamil Nadu alone claiming over 50 percent of the total engineering shipments from South India during 2016-18, the state Governor Mr. Mr Banwarilal Purohit said at an EEPC India award function in Chennai on December 28, 2018. The southern region engineering exports amounted to USD 18.34 billion during 2017-18 as the state has emerged as the front line state in manufacturing industries. He said all 78 awardees of the EEPC India, Southern Region’s honour, have played a key role in enhancing the country’s engineering exports which are most contributed by the MSMEs.

Century (USD 100 Billion) seems foreseeable by Indian Engineering Exports which reached an all-time high of USD 76.2 billion in 2017-18 and has registered a  7.5% hike over the first 8 months during the current fiscal. EEPC India advocated Government’s Swachchta Mission  and  the ongoing 100 Day MSME Abhiyan which unveiled 12 key initiatives that will help the growth, expansion and facilitation of the sector. However, the global trade environment is marked with uncertainties, said EEPC India Chairman Mr. Ravi Sehgal, adding it is not clear how the US programme of Generalized System of Preferences for Indian imports to the US would be in future. The GSP programme allows duty free entry of 1937 products worth USD 5.6 billion from India into the US markets.
 
Mr Mahesh K Desai, Senior Vice Chairman and Officiating as the Regional Chairman (SR), EEPC India said that the exporters were striving for their stellar performance despite global head winds during 2016-17, when Indian engineering exports was  USD 65.2 Billion. Hyundai, TVS, HAL, RINL  were among the winners of the EEPC India, Southern Region awards.
