A special Vitamin A deficiency Camp in Chennai has been set up in greater Chennai to administer vitamin A for the children aged between 6 months - 60 months. The camp was launched yesterday. Throughout the country Vitamin A deficiency Camp will be held in March and September. This year the vitamin A liquid will be administered to children for 4 days barring 23rd and 24th March.
Vitamin A Deficiency impaired immunity and haematopoiesis and causes rashes and typical ocular effects such as xerophthalmia, night blindness, corneal xerosis and conjunctival xerosis, all of which affect the eye and can cause vision impairment.
The drops were orally administered by the nurses at immunization sites set up at anganwadi centres, which provide nutritional support to children and pregnant women, and health sub centres in Chennai.
Children in Government schools were also covered by setting up centres at noon meal centres.
