Mayor Saidai Duraisamy held a consultative meeting on Thursday with the officials regarding the launching of Amma weekly market in the areas under the jurisdiction of Greater Chennai Corporation.
Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner Tha Karthikeyan, 45 bank representatives, 25 representatives of service department and 27 exporters participated in this consultative meeting.
It has been decided to launch Amma weekly market in three zones on trial basis. Places selected are R K Nagar constituency, Ashok Nagar 11th Avenue and Old Mahabalipuram Road.
Since Amma weekly market is being launched for the first time, the pros and cons about the goods brought for sales by the merchants as well as the ordeals faced by the consumers need to be examined. Based on the study, Amma weekly market will be launched also at Arumbakkam, mint bridge area, Valasaravakkam- Chetpet Tar Mixing Station and Marina Beach.
Amma weekly marketwill be opened between 6 am and 9 pm. If the good brought for sales are exhausted, remedial measure for bringing the goods immediately was also discussed. Goods sold should be of a good quality. It should be cheaper when compared to the open market.
The manufacturer should send the details of a product like its rate and phone number in a cover to the Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner.
Chennai Corporation will provide shed, electricity, ceiling fans, drinking water facility and toilets free of cost for the merchants. The police department will take care of traffic, law and order and crime.
Separate place will be allotted for vegetarian and non vegetarian products.
