Located at about 480 kms from Chennai, and 100 kms south-east of Coimbatore, Pazhani in Dindigul is regarded highly. In this place is present Lord Dhandayuthapani Swamy temple and it is one of the arupadai veedu of Lord Muruga. The temple is present on a hill which is of 150 metres and there are as many as 693 steps present. Here Lord Muruga would be seen having his weapon’ Vel’ in his hand and he would be in a simple costume. It is superb to note that the prasadam or panchamirtham given in this temple is fantastic.
It is worthy to mention that sage Naradha gave gnagapazham or fruit to Lord Shiva at Kailash and Lord Shiva told his sons Lord Vinayakar and Lord Muruga that he would give that fruit to whoever circles round the world thrice.
At this juncture Lord Muruga circled the world thrice in a peacock but Lord Vinayakar went around his parents Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati as they were his world. Lord Vinayakar got this gnanapazham or fruit for his effort from Lord Shiva. This angered Lord Muruga and he chose to remain as hermit in Pazhani. It was sage Bogar who created the idol of Lord Muruga here in Pazhani. It is interesting to mention that Sage Bogar made the idol using nine poisonous substances and hence it is called as navapashanam. Special poojas are held during panguni uthiram and thai poosam festivals in this superb temple of Lord Muruga is well known.
Located at the top of a hill this popular temple is visited by many devotees and Chera king was involved in the construction of this temple. Winch and rope car present here transports the people up the hill.
One important piece of information is in this temple the main idol or moolavar would be seen facing north. The devotees can visit this temple from 5 am to 10 pm every day.
