The bike-taxi services provided for passengers of the Chennai Metro Rail at the Chennai Metro Railway stations have been abruptly halted!
The Chennai Metro Rail Company, in collaboration with a private agency, introduced the Bike-Taxi Service exclusively operated by women on April 13th.
Initially, this bike-taxi service was available at several Chennai Metro Railway Stations, including Thousand Lights, Teynampet, Egmore, Saidapet, and a few others.
However, the auto operators strongly protested against this service.
Furthermore, the Department of Transport announced that no permission had been granted for operating bike-taxi services. Consequently, the bike-taxi services have been discontinued.
The Chennai Metro Rail officials provided the following information:
"The Chennai Metro Rail introduced bike-taxi services at select stations without entering into any formal agreement. However, the Department of Transport has recently imposed a ban on bike-taxi services.
Consequently, the bike-taxi services that were provided at a few Chennai Metro Rail Stations have already been suspended. As a result, this bike-taxi service is no longer available at any of the Chennai Metro Rail Stations!"
