Chennai Metro rail may have its office headquarters at Nandanam where it is planning to build a skyscraper at over 10 acres land. The building is expected to be multi-storied with more than 20 or 25 storeys and the plans are in its initial stages. The department is waiting for approval from the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) and Airports Authority of India (AAI).
Speaking to a spokesman at the department, he said they have begun with the piling works and refused to give any further information about it. When asked about the progress of metro rail construction, he said seven new tenders are issued and the construction works at stations including Koyambedu, Arumbakkam, CMBT, Vadapalani, Ekkattuthangal, Alandur and Ashok Nagar are on the go. Further to the expiry of contract with Consolidated Construction Consortium Limited (CCCL), the works were temporarily stopped and now, they have are resumed further to the new tenders, he added.
