Right to education is finally becoming a reality. K Ponmudy Higher Education Minister ,Government of Tamilnadu was delivering the first convocation address at Tamilnadu Teachers’ Education University here was hinting at the  implementation of Right to Education. He opined that in such case, there will be more children taking to education and naturally we will need more schools. He also advised that the teachers not to let standards dilute. The Minister was also speaking about the major changes being envisaged in Teacher’s Education with introduction of Four year integrated B. Ed course. The student after plus can pursue in the subject of their interest. It was announced that there was also a proposal to set up new university complex at Karunkuzhipallam on Old Mahabalipuram Road.

There are reasons why children are not able take up education or sent to school. First is Poverty and second schools not available in near proximity. An example there is large community of casual laborers in India. They are most construction laborers who work in building residential to commercial to Industrial to other infrastructure like roads, dams and bridges. Their tenure in a place is uncertain, leave alone it is in most cases very short. Where would their children go? Government should first plan for their Roti, Kapada and Makhan before make the education their rights which they cannot exercise. It is not that the parents do not want their to go to school but it is their struggle for one time meals that keeps the children away from schools.
